This College oversees the Art Department, Asian Art Gallery, Dance Department, Electronic Media and Film Department, Mass Communication Department, Music Department, and Theatre Department. It was established in 1982 when the college system was created at Towson State University, now Towson University. Music was one of the first classes taught to students at the Maryland State Normal School, predecessor of Towson University, when it opened its doors in 1866. First offered as a Speech and Drama major in 1962, the Department of Theatre Arts had its beginning almost at the start of Towson University’s history, as dramatic readings were part of teacher’s education.
